One of the most talked about marijuana treatments for cancer over the last 15 years has been a concentrate called Rick Simpson Oil or RSO. RSO is a high THC, full spectrum concentrate made famous by, you guessed it, Rick Simpson in the early 2000s as a potentially “effective” and safe treatment for cancer.
Who is Rick Simpson?
Rick Simpson was a cancer patient in Canada diagnosed with melanoma (skin cancer) in 2003. After some research that suggested THC was anti-tumorigenic, Rick formulated the famous RSO concentrate oil. He applied this topically to the lesions and miraculously the lesions healed.
How does RSO work and is it different than other medical marijuana oils?
Recent studies, mainly in animal models, have suggested that THC is an anti-tumor compound. According to the National Cancer Institute, cannabinoids such as THC may cause “antitumor effects by various mechanisms, including induction of cell death, inhibition of cell growth, and inhibition of tumor angiogenesis invasion and metastasis.”
RSO products, such as MUV’s RSO metered syringe, have utilized this anecdotal and scientific information to develop medicines that utilize this “high-concentration” of these known cancer-killing cannabinoids. These products are different than other medical marijuana oils in that they are much more potent, so it is recommended that each patient works closely with their clinician to tailor the dosing. MUV’s RSO metered syringe is a great way to manage dosing, due to their novel metered syringe that administers 25mg with each click.
Is there a recommended dosage regimen for RSO?
Like with all medical marijuana treatment regimens, it is important to “Start SLOW and Go Low” in your treatment dosage. This is especially the case with RSO products due to their high THC concentrations. The recommended treatment plan for RSO usually takes place over 90 days, with an increasing dosing scale starting at 25mg orally twice a day then moving up.
